What is Data Curation?
This website is currently in a beta phase. Though bilingual functionality exists, we are still working on translating all elements. If you would like to provide feedback or help build this resource, please see the link at the bottom for contact information. |
Data curation is the active management of research data as it is created, maintained, used, archived, shared, and reused. Curation may happen at any point throughout the research data lifecycle, and data managers, data stewards, academic librarians, and other data practitioners may all engage in various aspects of curation. Data curation activities include the creation of documentation and metadata to contextualize data; quality assurance during data analysis, and through steps such as file audit and code review; preparation of datasets for deposit; transformation of files to optimize them for re-use and long-term preservation; augmentation of metadata to increase discoverability, and others.
